Accounting Analyst, Financial Services

About the role

Olympia Entertainment (ilitch) is looking for an Accounting Analyst in its Financial Services unit in Detroit. The role provides general accounting support to the organization, including journal entries, account reconciliation, month-end closing, forecasting and budgeting, and cost and variance analysis. It involves managing complex and confidential financial records with discretion and autonomy.

Key responsibilities

• Reconcile costs for publicly ticketed and private events, and compile, review, record and prepare billing requests.
• Work with event accountants to provide timely and accurate event cost information.
• Work with operations, sales and marketing to invoice for their services.
• Analyze and reconcile general ledger accounts monthly.
• Take part in the monthly close, including reviewing financial statements, posting journal entries and explaining budget-to-actual variances.
• Help prepare monthly forecasts and the annual budget for assigned departments.
• Follow corporate accounting policies and suggest improvements; improve business processes and handle other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
• At least two years of related experience.
• High integrity and ethical standards.
• Effective oral and written communication, strong problem-solving and analytical skills, and ability to prioritize and handle several tasks at once.

Required skills

• Intermediate Excel.
• PREFERRED: working knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP), sports and entertainment experience, Oracle, and Workforce and/or Workday.
