Accountant Level I – NYPD Payroll Section

About the role

The Payroll Section of the New York City Police Department is seeking an Accountant Level I to support payroll processing for both civilian and uniformed personnel. This position plays a critical role in ensuring accurate and timely payments for a variety of leave types, retirements, and other personnel actions.

Key responsibilities

• Process uniform and civilian payments for final days worked before permanent and temporary leaves, including retirements, resignations, transfers, dismissals, and deaths.
• Issue supplemental checks and mid‑week pay adjustments for new appointments, reassignments, promotions, demotions, and salary changes.
• Review and adjust City Time records for workers’ compensation transitions.
• Generate reports from PMS, RMDS, PI, City Time, and CHRMS systems as required.
• Handle anticipatory week requests through City Time and ensure compliance with overtime needs.

Required profile

• Current permanent accountant position within a city agency or successful completion of Open‑Competitive Exam #6000.
• Baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution.
• Ability to work overtime to meet deadlines.
• Eligibility to work in the United States.

Required skills

• Experience with payroll processing and related financial transactions.
• Familiarity with City Time, PMS, RMDS, PI, and CHRMS reporting systems.
