Accountant – Campus Operations (Coral Gables)

About the role

The Accountant oversees internal accounting and reporting for the assigned department, supporting management with budgeting, fiscal monitoring and compliance to ensure funds are always available. This position works closely with Facilities Operations & Planning on capital projects and serves as a key liaison between vendors, contractors and university finance teams.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare balance sheets, profit and loss statements and other financial reports.
• Analyze trends, costs, revenues and financial commitments to forecast future performance.
• Verify journal vouchers, reconcile expenditure and revenue accounts, and approve reimbursements, check requisitions and purchase orders.
• Assist with fiscal year‑end entries, accruals and the close‑out of project accounts.
• Manage project accounting for Facilities Design & Construction, reviewing invoices, contracts, progress payments and change orders.
• Liaise with vendors, contractors, university purchasing, accounts payable and project managers to ensure accurate financial activity.
• Compile monthly project reports, perform account reconciliations and maintain supporting documentation.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
• Minimum of 1 year of relevant accounting experience.
• Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and budget control methods.
• Ability to prepare, analyze and interpret financial and accounting data.
• Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy.

Required skills

• Advanced Microsoft Excel.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Outlook.
• Experience using Adobe Acrobat.
