About the role
Texas A&M University‑Corpus Christi seeks an Academic Advisor II to guide undergraduate and graduate students through course selection, registration, and degree planning. Reporting to the Senior Academic Advisor, you will support student success and retention on a vibrant coastal campus.
Key responsibilities
- Provide individualized and group academic advising in line with NACADA best practices, including course selection, registration, major/minor decisions, and career planning.
- Monitor student progress, intervene with at‑risk students, and refer them to campus resources such as tutoring, counseling, and financial aid.
- Maintain accurate advising records, process academic forms, and ensure compliance with university, state, and FERPA policies.
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, and campus committees on retention initiatives and professional development activities.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree and at least two years of higher‑education advising experience.
- Strong communication, active‑listening, and organizational skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to attend regional or national advising conferences and occasional evening or weekend hours.
Required skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Experience using student information systems such as Banner, Argos, Navigate 360, Laserfiche, and Degree Works.
- Ability to conduct degree audits and academic planning using campus software tools.
