2027 Summer Associate – Intellectual Property

About the role

Nixon Peabody is seeking a 2027 Summer Associate to join its Intellectual Property practice in Los Angeles, San Francisco, or Washington, DC. This hybrid position offers law students hands‑on experience in IP portfolio management, registration, defense, and enforcement, including work on domain names, social media issues, and counterfeiting.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct legal research and draft memoranda on IP matters.
• Assist attorneys with discovery, document review, and case preparation.
• Support IP registration, enforcement, and portfolio management projects.
• Participate in client meetings and provide substantive feedback on assignments.
• Engage in training programs and mentorship sessions throughout the summer.

Required profile

• Rising second‑year law student with a demonstrated interest in intellectual property law.
• Strong academic credentials (minimum 3.0 GPA).
• Excellent legal writing, judgment, and communication skills.
• Commitment to delivering high‑quality client service.

Required skills

• Legal research and writing.
• Understanding of IP concepts such as patents, trademarks, and copyrights.
• Familiarity with discovery and case management processes.
