About the role
Join BASF’s Catalyst division in McIntyre, GA as a 1st Class Mechanic. You will work on complex equipment that supports the production of mobile emissions and process catalysts, ensuring safe and efficient operations.
Key responsibilities
- Recognize and practice safe work habits in all daily duties.
- Install, rearrange, align, dismantle, repair, and reassemble complex equipment.
- Diagnose equipment failures and perform mechanic‑skill work such as fabrication, assembly, welding, cutting, and pipefitting.
- Use a variety of cutting and welding methods (oxy‑acetylene, plasma arc, shielded arc, tungsten arc, flux‑cored, carbon arc, gouging, submerged arc).
- Occasionally perform tasks in related trades (rigging, rough carpentry, machining).
- Read and interpret drawings, sketches, and technical manuals.
- Inspect own and others’ work for quality and dimensional compliance.
- Repair piping and valves, install new pipe, valves, and control devices.
- Rig equipment for lifting with hoists or cranes, handling loads of several thousand pounds.
- Complete routine paperwork and use CMMS for maintenance tracking.
Required profile
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Prior experience with rotating equipment or in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to operate all shop equipment and work with water‑soluble and oil‑based lubricants.
- Comfort working on ladders, scaffolds, pits and lifting 50 lb intermittently.
- Union position under United Steel Workers (USW) with benefits per collective bargaining agreement.

- Pipefitting.
- Use of inspection gauges and shop math.
- Reading technical drawings and manuals.
