Weekend Social Media Editor

About the role

The San Francisco Standard is looking for a dynamic Weekend Social Media Editor to drive audience growth and deepen engagement with our loyal readers. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Social, you will craft and optimize content across multiple platforms during the weekend schedule.

Key responsibilities

• Create and optimize content for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and other platforms, executing daily posting of articles.
• Conceive and produce social‑first or social‑only content, including quick‑turn videos captured at weekend events.
• Collaborate with editorial staff and freelance creators to ensure weekend stories are reviewed and posted on schedule.
• Track breaking news and trending topics to keep the newsroom informed.
• Monitor performance across channels and develop strategies to optimize social reach.
• Stay current with the latest social media technologies, algorithm changes, and platform enhancements.

Required profile

• At least 3 years of social media experience, preferably in media or publishing.
• Strong editorial judgment, excellent writing and copy‑editing skills, and the ability to craft compelling SEO/social headlines.
• Deep familiarity with San Francisco’s social media landscape.
• Highly organized with meticulous attention to detail.
• Independent self‑starter who thrives in a fast‑paced newsroom.

Required skills

• Proficiency with native analytics and insights tools such as Sprout.
• Experience using publishing tools like Dash Social, True Anthem, or similar platforms.
• Social video creation and editing expertise.
