Vice President, Controllership – Corporate & Investment Banking

About the role

The Vice President of Controllership for Corporate & Investment Banking will lead large‑scale accounting projects and processes within Santander’s CIB division in New York. Reporting to senior finance leadership, the role ensures accurate financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and drives automation initiatives across the controllership function.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and monitor major projects or process implementations within the accounting function.
• Provide monthly close reporting support and perform analysis for management reporting.
• Direct accounting teams by reviewing financial information, disclosures and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
• Research and analyze new products, systems and best practices, with emphasis on loan portfolio product control.
• Lead automation and IT transformation initiatives across the controllership function.
• Develop more efficient procedures while maintaining high accuracy and resource utilization.
• Communicate accounting developments to operations, finance and regulatory reporting teams.
• Collaborate cross‑functionally to implement and standardize new accounting requirements.
• Advise senior management on best practices and support overall department goals.
• Coach, review and delegate work to junior professionals as needed.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in accounting, controllership or finance within a corporate or investment banking environment.
• Proven ability to lead large projects and drive process improvements.
• Strong understanding of regulatory and compliance standards applicable to banking.
• Excellent communication skills to convey complex accounting impacts to stakeholders.
• Experience coaching and developing junior finance professionals.
