Utility Process Operator

About the role

The Utilities Process Operator ensures safe and efficient operation of brewery-wide industrial utility systems, including steam generation, refrigeration, HVAC, compressed air, water treatment, and CO2 processing. This position works in a fast‑paced, loud production environment and contributes to continuous improvement of utility performance.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and maintain steam, CO2, ammonia and glycol refrigeration, dehumidification, compressed air, and water systems.
• Follow OSHA, Lockout‑Tagout, work‑permitting, and Process Safety Management standards.
• Perform routine cleaning, sanitation (5S), lubrication, and simple maintenance tasks.
• Document shift activities, respond to utility system requests, and interpret piping and instrumentation drawings.
• Analyze process data to make maintenance and improvement decisions.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or GED; Class 1 Stationary Engineer license preferred or willingness to obtain.
• Familiarity with automated process control systems and ability to read mechanical drawings.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for teamwork in a diverse environment.

Required skills

• Experience with high‑pressure boilers and large‑scale ammonia refrigeration.
• Knowledge of compressed air and CO2 gas collection/liquefaction systems.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and maintenance software such as SAP.
• Ability to perform lockout/tagout procedures and conduct root‑cause analysis (e.g., Six Sigma).
