Transformative AI Research Economist

About the role

Anthropic is seeking a Transformative AI Research Economist to design macro‑economic models that capture the unprecedented impact of advanced AI systems. You will combine rigorous economic theory with real‑world AI usage data to forecast growth, productivity, and labor‑market outcomes under novel AI‑capability scenarios.

Key responsibilities

• Build macro‑economic models of transformative AI covering growth, labor markets, and income distribution.
• Develop and maintain scenario‑based forecasting tools and publish forecasts for GDP, productivity, and unemployment.
• Ground macro‑projections in micro‑economic data from the Anthropic Economic Index.
• Analyze income‑distribution and economic‑governance questions under AI‑driven transformation.
• Contribute to AI‑powered research tools and publish Economic Index Reports and research briefs.
• Establish and nurture collaborations with academic institutions, policy think tanks, and research partners.
• Amplify external engagement through publications, policy briefs, and stakeholder presentations.

Required profile

• PhD in Economics or a candidate close to completion.
• Strong background in macroeconomics, growth theory, or public finance, with exposure to task‑based frameworks and labor economics.
• Demonstrated research record addressing high‑impact, forward‑looking economic questions.
