TPU Operator – Manufacturing Shift Role

About the role

The TPU Operator will join BASF’s Performance Materials division at the Wyandotte, MI plant. Working on a 12‑hour rotating shift, you will help produce thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) by operating extrusion lines and supporting equipment while ensuring safety and product quality.

Key responsibilities

• Operate PLC and environmental control systems for extrusion processes.
• Read, record, and interpret data from extruders and related equipment.
• Make prompt corrective adjustments, troubleshoot issues, and maintain optimal flow, pressure, temperature, and material composition.
• Load and unload chemicals from trucks, tanks, and rail cars, and handle batch transfers.
• Perform routine visual inspections and basic maintenance on plant equipment.
• Follow shift supervisor instructions, batch sheets, and standard operating procedures.
• Cross‑train in other production areas and assist during plant outages or special projects.

Required profile

• High School Diploma/GED or at least 6 months experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Willingness to work 12‑hour rotating day/night shifts, including holidays, weekends, and overtime.
• Intermediate computer proficiency (process control software, internet, email, MS Office, SAP).
• Ability to comply with site respirator and safety policies.
