TIG Welder – Precision GTAW Welding

About the role
The TIG Welder performs precision GTAW/TIG welding, fabrication, fitting, and repair of carbon steel, stainless steel, nickel alloys and other specialty metals. The role requires producing high‑quality welds while controlling heat, penetration, distortion and appearance, and reading blueprints, weld symbols, WPS and operation travelers.
Key responsibilities
- Perform GTAW/TIG welding and other processes (MIG/GMAW, FCAW, tack welding) following WPS, blueprints and work instructions.
- Set up parts using fixtures, weld benches and turntables to ensure proper fit‑up and alignment.
- Prepare weld joints by cleaning, removing contaminants and selecting appropriate filler materials and electrodes.
- Control heat input, penetration and distortion to produce defect‑free full‑penetration welds on carbon steel, stainless steel, nickel alloys and specialty metals.
- Inspect welds with calipers, micrometers, gauges and verify dimensions; grind, clean and repair as needed.
- Perform plasma cutting, torch cutting and weld repair operations.
- Safely operate cranes, hoists, carts, dollies and forklifts to move materials and completed parts.
- Maintain welding equipment, tooling and work area in a clean, safe condition.
Required profile
- Proven experience with TIG/GTAW welding of stainless steel, nickel alloys and other specialty metals.
- Experience producing full‑penetration groove welds, multi‑pass TIG welds and back‑purging stainless steel welds.
- Ability to read and interpret formal Weld Procedure Specifications (WPS) and blueprints.
- Previous work in a quality‑controlled manufacturing environment with documented weld procedures.
- Relevant welding certifications (AWS, ASME, military, aerospace, pressure vessel) preferred.
