System Safety Engineer (Level 2/3) – AISR&T Program

About the role
Northrop Grumman is seeking a Level 2/3 Systems Safety Engineer to support the AISR&T program in Rancho Bernardo, CA. You will apply systems and safety engineering principles to identify, assess, and mitigate hazards throughout the system lifecycle, ensuring safety requirements are met and validated against design and test evidence.
Key responsibilities
- Perform system safety activities across the lifecycle, including hazard identification, analysis, tracking, and mitigation.
- Develop, allocate, implement, and verify system and subsystem safety requirements.
- Conduct safety analyses such as Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA), Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA), System Safety Assessments (SSA), FMEA/FMECA, and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA).
- Plan and execute safety validation, defining acceptance criteria and confirming compliance with safety assumptions.
- Collaborate with systems, software, hardware, integration/test, and reliability teams to embed safety considerations in design and verification.
- Prepare safety documentation, hazard logs, safety cases, and evidence packages for internal and customer reviews.
- Present safety findings, risks, and recommendations to program and customer stakeholders.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field (or Master’s) with at least 2 years of relevant experience.
- Active Secret security clearance or ability to obtain one.
- Willingness to travel up to 10% of the time.
- Strong analytical mindset and ability to work in cross‑functional teams.
