Standards Researcher – AI Security

About the role

Security Level 5 is building the first datacenter purpose‑built to defend frontier AI models against nation‑state threats. The Standards Researcher will help define, draft, and maintain the security controls that become the SL5 standard, ensuring they are practical, auditable, and resilient.

Key responsibilities

• Research open questions behind individual security controls, evaluating existing literature, industry practice, and determining the evidence auditors will require.
• Draft and continuously update control text and overlay content as the standard evolves.
• Support the Standards Lead in stakeholder engagement, documenting outcomes of discussions with labs, CISOs, and intelligence officials.

Required profile

• Experience in security research or standards development and ability to read primary sources such as NIST, ICD 705, and vendor documentation.
• Ability to write clearly and precisely under editorial pressure.
• Comfort with leaving questions open and flagged for future resolution rather than premature closure.
