Staff Software Engineer: Compute

About the role

Anthropic is building safe, beneficial AI and needs software engineers to scale its compute infrastructure. As a Staff Software Engineer on the Compute team you will create the core tools that manage the lifecycle of datacenters, from site selection to construction progress, enabling the rapid deployment of AI models.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement a unified, permissioned system that tracks sites, designs, bills of materials, equipment, and construction status.
• Work closely with datacenter, energy, and supply‑chain teams to understand their workflows, identify critical paths, and deliver the tools they need first.
• Migrate and reconcile data from spreadsheets and legacy trackers, integrating with construction‑management, scheduling, and engineering platforms.
• Ensure data trustworthiness through fine‑grained permissions, auditability, and high data quality for decisions that move large capital.
• Release early versions, gather user feedback, and iterate quickly to accelerate compute availability.
• Collaborate with research teams to align engineering capabilities with emerging model requirements.

Required profile

• 8+ years of experience building software with strong full‑stack development expertise.
• Demonstrated ability to earn the trust of domain experts and model complex, messy domains.
• Experience embedding with cross‑functional teams and delivering tools that impact physical‑world operations.
• Datacenter or infrastructure experience is a strong plus.
