Staff Engineer – Reliability Test

About the role

Shield AI is seeking a Staff Engineer to lead reliability testing of electronic flight hardware for its VBAT and XBAT aircraft. You will design, execute, and manage environmental test campaigns, ensuring hardware meets stringent performance and safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and continuously improve a world‑class environmental test lab, including HALT/HASS chambers, thermal‑humidity chambers, vibration and shock equipment.
• Develop test plans, design CAD fixtures, instrument hardware with thermocouples, accelerometers, strain gauges and humidity sensors, and configure data acquisition systems.
• Run multiple test campaigns concurrently, schedule equipment, monitor tests, investigate failures and produce detailed reports with visualizations.
• Maintain lab consumables, oversee equipment safety, and coordinate with external laboratories as needed.

Required profile

• 2+ years of experience with environmental testing (temperature cycling, vibration, HALT/HASS).
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Reliability Engineering.
• Self‑starter with strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
• Experience working with interdisciplinary teams on product design to production.

Required skills

• Proficiency in CAD modelling (ANSYS SpaceClaim, NX, SolidWorks).
• Experience with data acquisition instrumentation (thermocouples, accelerometers, humidity sensors, strain gauges).
• Python programming with NumPy, Pandas, SciPy, Plotly and Matplotlib.
• FEA modelling (ANSYS Mechanical, Siemens Simcenter, Abaqus).
