Staff Engineer, Datacenter Server Lifecycle

About the role

Anthropic is building a $50 billion American computing infrastructure to support its AI models. As a Staff Engineer on the Datacenter Server Lifecycle team, you will own the full operational journey of every server—from provisioning and deployment through steady‑state operation, maintenance, and eventual decommissioning. This greenfield role lets you define AI‑native workflows, tooling, standards, and processes that keep critical hardware reliable, efficient, and secure at scale.

Key responsibilities

• Build automation to manage datacenter fleets at scale.
• Define and own the end‑to‑end server lifecycle strategy, including provisioning, deployment, maintenance, refresh, and decommissioning.
• Maintain automation and procedures for common lifecycle events such as hardware failures, firmware upgrades, and fleet rotations.
• Partner with Infrastructure Security to design and enforce trusted compute standards across the server lifecycle.
• Collaborate with the Networking team to ensure seamless connectivity across all sites.
• Develop and maintain tooling to track machine health, configuration, and operational status across the entire fleet.

Required profile

• Hands‑on experience with server hardware, rack deployment, cabling, troubleshooting, and understanding failure modes at scale.
• End‑to‑end knowledge of hardware lifecycle management, including asset tracking, provisioning workflows, maintenance scheduling, and decommissioning practices.
• Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Python, Rust, Go, or Java.
• Working knowledge of modern cloud infrastructure, including Kubernetes and large‑scale cloud provider environments.
