Staff AI Engineer – AI Infrastructure & Agentic Platform

About the role

ShiftKey is building an AI‑native healthcare workforce marketplace and needs a senior engineer to own its AI infrastructure layer. You will shape the retrieval, indexing, and agentic platforms that power both internal tools and customer‑facing features.

Key responsibilities

• Evolve the AI knowledge platform by enhancing semantic RAG, re‑ranking, and HyDE pipelines for organization‑wide use.
• Architect and operate multi‑step, tool‑using AI agents on AWS with built‑in cost guardrails and observability.
• Design graph‑based, relationship‑aware retrieval across data sources to enable multi‑hop queries.
• Define the AI platform API surface in partnership with product engineering.
• Own the AI infrastructure cost model, monitor spend, and implement budgetary safeguards.

Required profile

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• At least 2 years building and operating production AI/LLM systems.
• Deep expertise in retrieval engineering beyond basic search, including hybrid search and query transformation.
• Hands‑on experience with agentic frameworks, multi‑step reasoning loops, and cost governance.

Required skills

• Go, Python, TypeScript.
• AWS (including Bedrock) and Terraform.
• Production‑grade observability (metrics, structured logging).
• Experience with managed cloud AI platforms (AWS Bedrock preferred).
• Strong typing, testing, async/concurrency practices.
