Software Engineer – Control/Routing

About the role

Alkira, a Lumen company, is seeking a Software Engineer with expertise in control‑plane and routing to develop the Cloud Services Exchange (CSX). The role focuses on designing, building, and debugging networking software that powers Alkira’s cloud networking platform.

Key responsibilities

• Gather requirements from PLM and Sales teams and translate them into design specifications.
• Design, implement, and test control‑plane services in Go and the FRR routing stack in C.
• Own feature development end‑to‑end, including defect resolution.
• Participate in an on‑call rotation to troubleshoot and resolve production provisioning issues across US and India sites.

Required profile

• B.S. or equivalent in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science.
• Minimum 2 years of hands‑on experience in networking or routing software development.
• Strong understanding of IP routing fundamentals, BGP, and Linux networking (interfaces, namespaces, kernel routing).
• Ability to work effectively with distributed teams in the US and India.

Required skills

• Go (primary language) and C.
• Linux networking, multithreaded programming, and systematic debugging.
• Experience with FRR, ZebOS, or similar open‑source routing stacks.
• Familiarity with cloud networking on AWS, Azure, and GCP (VPC/VNet, peering, transit gateways).
• Knowledge of AI‑assisted tool development is a plus.
