Software Engineer, AI Product + Agents

About the role

Shepherd is building a fast, smart commercial risk platform that combines underwriting expertise, data, and automation. As a Software Engineer on the AI Product + Agents team, you will help shape the AI strategy that powers data collection, automated underwriting, and policy administration.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and iterate Shepherd's AI product strategy across the platform.
• Experiment with AI implementations in data collection, underwriting automation, and policy administration.
• Take end‑to‑end ownership of features, from conception through release.
• Collaborate with engineers, product managers, designers, underwriters, actuaries, and the CTO.
• Mentor junior engineers and help build a strong engineering culture.
• Balance innovative research with pragmatic delivery of high‑quality products.

Required profile

• Comfortable with ambiguity and excited by it.
• Enjoy shipping product daily while maintaining high quality.
• Willing to wear multiple hats – engineer, product manager, designer.
• Passionate about improving construction safety and productivity.
• Committed to mentoring and growing other engineers.
• Strong, adaptable opinions and clear communication with technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
• 5+ years of full‑stack engineering experience delivering high‑impact products.
