Senior Manager, Compute Accounting

About the role

Anthropic is seeking a Senior Manager to own the end‑to‑end accounting for its compute and cloud infrastructure spend. You will ensure accurate financial reporting, robust controls, and scalable processes as the company’s cloud footprint expands rapidly.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the full accounting lifecycle for compute and cloud expenses, including monthly close, reconciliations, accruals, prepaids, journal entries and variance analysis.
• Review and interpret cloud service provider contracts to determine proper accounting treatment, track commitments and ensure compliance.
• Apply ASC 842 lease accounting expertise to complex infrastructure arrangements, identifying embedded leases and handling classification, measurement and modifications.
• Partner with Engineering, Legal, Procurement and Finance teams during contract negotiations to clarify accounting implications before commitments are made.
• Develop and maintain accounting policies for cost recognition, classification and amortization across multiple cloud providers.
• Design and implement accrual and prepaid processes that reflect the timing and nature of cloud infrastructure costs.
• Serve as a primary liaison with external auditors and mentor junior accounting staff within the Compute Accounting team.

Required profile

• Deep expertise in accounting for compute usage and cloud cost structures.
• Strong technical accounting judgment, especially with ASC 842 lease accounting.
• Proven ability to build scalable processes, controls and policies in a high‑growth environment.
• Experience collaborating with cross‑functional teams such as Engineering, Legal and Procurement.
• Track record of mentoring accounting professionals and managing external audit relationships.
