About the role
The Programme Management Officer will be based in the Office of the Assistant Secretary‑General within the United Nations Development Coordination Office (UNDCO) in New York. The incumbent works closely with DCO units, regional offices and the SDG coordination, policy and programme division to support system‑wide crisis management, security liaison and contingency planning.
Key responsibilities
- Develop, implement and evaluate programmes and projects, monitoring progress and proposing corrective actions.
- Conduct consulting assignments, facilitate workshops and assist clients in change‑management action planning.
- Research, analyse and map technical expertise across the UNSDG system and external partners to enable surge‑capacity solutions.
- Coordinate RC system‑wide crisis preparedness, response and recovery, ensuring coherent support across headquarters, regional offices and country teams.
- Serve as DCO focal point for security coordination and represent the RC system within the Inter‑Agency Security Management Network.
- Support development and alignment of contingency planning tools, guidance and strategic engagement with UN Secretariat resilience mechanisms.
- Monitor emerging crisis and security risks, prepare analytical briefs and advise senior management.
- Design and conduct surveys, analyse data, produce visualisations and provide insights for data‑driven planning.
Required profile
- Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in business administration, political science, development studies, economics or related field.
- Minimum five years of progressively responsible experience in programme management, administration or related areas.
- Experience in inter‑agency collaboration within the development sector; UN or comparable international organization experience is desirable.
- Proficiency in English and French, the working languages of the United Nations.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct research, data collection and analysis, and to produce high‑quality written outputs.
