Principal Electrical Engineer – Medical Device

About the role

As a Principal Electrical Engineer you will join Philips’ IntraSight hardware team in San Diego, driving the development of innovative medical imaging solutions. You will act as the primary technical liaison with external suppliers, design partners and contract manufacturers to deliver high-quality, reliable PCBA designs that meet stringent safety and regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the electrical engineering interface with suppliers and contract manufacturers, overseeing PCBA design, prototyping and industrialisation.
• Define and align electrical requirements, schematics, PCB layout, architecture, acceptance criteria, timelines, cost and quality.
• Conduct supplier selection, technical evaluations, design reviews and issue resolution in partnership with sourcing and cross‑functional teams.
• Drive design for manufacturability, testability and cost while managing component lifecycle, obsolescence and risk.
• Oversee PCBA verification and validation, including functional, signal‑integrity, power‑integrity, safety and EMC testing to IEC 60601‑1/1‑2 standards.
• Lead root‑cause analysis and resolution of electrical issues throughout development and post‑launch phases.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field with 10+ years of experience in PCBA design and development.
• Proven track record working directly with suppliers, EMS partners and contract manufacturers, managing technical discussions and design reviews.
• Strong knowledge of DFM, DFT, DFC, signal integrity, power integrity, EMC and electrical testing.
• Experience with regulated medical devices and familiarity with IEC 60601‑1, IEC 60601‑1‑2 and ISO 13485.

• EDA tools: Altium, Cadence, Mentor Graphics.
• PLM system: Windchill.
