Police Officer

About the role

Under the supervision of the Chief of Police and senior sergeants, the Police Officer conducts uniformed patrols throughout Draper City, actively preventing and detecting crime, responding to public safety threats, and providing community protection.

Key responsibilities

• Patrol city streets, alleys and neighborhoods by vehicle or on foot, checking for security breaches and illegal activity.
• Respond to emergency calls, secure crime scenes, conduct preliminary investigations, interview witnesses and suspects, and make arrests as warranted.
• Control traffic, issue citations, investigate motor vehicle accidents, and prepare related reports.
• Serve legal processes, escort prisoners, and manage detainee safety.
• Prepare comprehensive incident reports, testify in court, and maintain firearms and equipment.

Required profile

• High school diploma or G.E.D.; entry‑level or lateral experience acceptable.
• Utah POST certification as a Law Enforcement Officer or Special Functions Officer (or within 12 months of hire).
• Pass annual police department physical fitness test and hold a valid Utah driver’s license.
• Successful completion of Field Training Officer (FTO) program during probation.

Required skills

• Firearms operation and maintenance.
• Police vehicle operation and emergency response driving.
• Use of breathalyzers, radar speed detection units, batons and restraining devices.
• Basic CPR and First Aid.

• Salary $31.52‑$38.34 per hour, DOE.
