About the role
Petroleum Inspectors travel to client facilities such as barges, ships, shore tanks, railcars and tank trucks to perform quantity surveys of petroleum and petrochemical commodities and to collect samples for laboratory analysis.
Key responsibilities
- Obtain orders, gather paperwork and ensure all measurement and safety equipment is calibrated, clean and in good working condition.
- Visit job sites punctually, measure and gauge tanks, vessels, barges, railcars or tank trucks, label samples accurately and calculate quantities.
- Complete required paperwork, deliver samples to the laboratory or client facilities, and report any discrepancies to the Operations Supervisor.
- Maintain a valid driver’s license and a working vehicle, remain on a 24‑hour on‑call status and attend key meetings with external personnel.
Required profile
- High school diploma or GED; knowledge of HS&E procedures and related governmental regulations.
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions and procedure manuals; basic arithmetic for quantity calculations.
- Physical ability to stand, walk, climb ladders and lift up to 50 lb (occasionally 100 lb with assistance).
Required skills
- Valid driver’s license and ownership of a car or truck.
- Operation and calibration of measurement and safety equipment.
- Sample collection, labeling and documentation.
- Quantity calculation and completion of inspection paperwork.
