Per Diem Phlebotomist (Code 6120)

About the role

The Phlebotomist at Kingman Healthcare is responsible for collecting venous and capillary blood samples from patients of all ages while ensuring proper patient identification, labeling, and specimen quality. The role supports the laboratory’s goal of providing high‑quality, contamination‑free specimens for testing.

Key responsibilities

• Obtain venous and capillary blood samples, following proper order of draw and patient identification.
• Use the hospital LIS system to track, cancel, and reprint specimen labels.
• Maintain inventory of phlebotomy supplies, checking expiration dates and restocking carts and draw stations.
• Provide courteous patient service and adhere to AIDET communication standards.
• Assist with I.V. line starts, respond to codes, traumas, and rapid responses, and support CPR when needed.
• Perform full registration for out‑patient draws, including demographics, insurance verification, and paperwork.
• Maintain and disinfect electronic tools (Vocera, PDA, mobile printers) and ensure they are charged.
• Complete required trainings, competencies, and CAP assignments.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 1 year of phlebotomy experience, preferably with prior laboratory exposure.
• BLS certification (American Heart Association or Red Cross) for inpatient/ED work.

Required skills

• Venipuncture and capillary blood collection techniques.
• Operation of hospital Laboratory Information System (LIS) for specimen management.
• Accurate patient identification and specimen labeling.
• Inventory control of phlebotomy supplies.
• Use of electronic devices such as Vocera, PDA, and mobile label printers.
• IV line start procedures and basic emergency response assistance.
