reflectionai · San Francisco
Job description
About the role
Join a research lab focused on open, accessible AI by designing and operating large‑scale multilingual data pipelines. You will work on sourcing, cleaning, deduplication, language identification, and script normalization for both high‑ and low‑resource languages.
Key responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain multilingual data pipelines at web scale, covering sourcing, cleaning, deduplication, language identification, and script normalization.
- Define and enforce quality standards for corpora, including translation quality, cultural fidelity, toxicity, and contamination checks.
- Run scientific experiments to improve multilingual data efficiency for large language models.
- Lead small research projects independently while collaborating on larger initiatives.
- Build evaluation sets and diagnostics to identify model performance gaps across languages, registers, or domains and close those gaps with targeted data.
- Partner with pre‑training, mid‑training, and post‑training teams to deliver measurable improvements in multilingual capability.
Required profile
- Strong software‑engineering fundamentals and comfort processing web‑scale datasets in distributed environments.
- Experience building large‑scale data pipelines for language models, machine translation, speech, or search, ideally across multiple languages.
- Fluency or working proficiency in at least one language other than English and curiosity about linguistic differences.
- Measurement‑first mindset: you prove data changes help rather than assume.
- Ability to navigate trade‑offs between research goals and engineering realities.
- Comfort with ambiguity, high ownership, and fast‑moving small teams.
