Medical Laboratory Scientist II – Hematology

About the role

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist II specialized in Hematology. This clinical staff position supports patient care by performing accurate hematology testing and contributing to the laboratory’s quality mission.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine and specialized hematology tests on patient specimens.
• Analyze and interpret test results, ensuring accuracy and timely reporting.
• Maintain and troubleshoot hematology instrumentation and related equipment.
• Execute quality control and quality assurance procedures in compliance with regulatory standards.
• Document findings in the laboratory information system and communicate critical results to clinical teams.
• Participate in specimen handling, storage, and disposal according to safety protocols.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related field.
• Certification (e.g., ASCP) or eligibility preferred.
• Experience working in a hematology laboratory setting.
• Ability to work varied shifts as required.
• Legal authorization to work in the United States.

Required skills

• Knowledge of hematology instrumentation and methodologies.
• Proficiency with laboratory information systems for result entry and verification.
• Understanding of quality assurance and regulatory compliance in a clinical lab.
• Competence in specimen collection, processing, and handling.
