Medical Director – Family or Emergency Medicine

About the role

The Medical Director for Family or Emergency Medicine leads clinical programs, ensuring high‑quality, cost‑effective care. This position operates primarily virtually, with occasional in‑person training to support onboarding and skill development.

Key responsibilities

• Support clinicians to provide timely, consistent responses to members and providers.
• Provide guidance on clinical operational aspects of the program.
• Conduct peer‑to‑peer clinical reviews and appeal case reviews with attending physicians and other providers.
• Serve as a resource and consultant for internal teams and external entities.
• Represent the company on internal and external committees, potentially chairing them.
• Interpret and develop medical policies and clinical guidelines.
• Lead, develop, direct, and implement activities that impact healthcare quality, cost, and outcomes.
• Identify and develop innovative opportunities to increase effectiveness and quality.

Required profile

• MD or DO degree.
• Board certification approved by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) or the American Osteopathic Association (AOA).
• Active, unrestricted medical license to practice medicine.
