Mechanical Engineer, Product Design

About the role

Integrating a complex sensing and computing system into a compact, attractive wearable form factor requires deep mechanical expertise. The Principal Mechanical Engineer will drive system architecture, mechanical design, thermal testing, component selection, prototyping roadmaps, and calibration. This role collaborates across electrical, firmware, industrial design, and soft‑goods teams to bring the product to market.

Key responsibilities

• Own mechanical architecture and design for all wearable hardware workstreams.
• Identify, evaluate, and onboard design and fabrication partners.
• Define and implement the mechanical engineering tool flow.
• Prioritize and lead explorations to solve integration challenges.
• Architect, simulate, prototype, and ship mechanical systems and components for wearables.
• Generate models, drawings, simulations, and specifications for internal and external partners.
• Serve as the primary liaison for material and fabrication partner selection.
• Travel as needed for product or prototype development.

Required profile

• 7+ years of product design experience, including 4+ years in wearable product design.
• Proven experience with complex electromechanical integration (sensors, cameras, batteries, antennas, audio) in very small form factors.
• Working knowledge of material properties such as plastics, metals, adhesives, and glass.
• Experience shipping products in a lead or principal engineer role.
• BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.

Required skills

• Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools.
• Mechanical simulation tools.
• Electromechanical integration expertise.
• Knowledge of high‑volume manufacturing techniques (stamping, machining, 3D printing, injection molding).
• Understanding of material properties (plastics, metals, adhesives, glass).
