Mechanic I – Industrial Maintenance

About the role

We are seeking a Mechanic I to join BASF’s Catalyst division in Attapulgus, GA. The successful candidate will provide mechanical maintenance and repair for our industrial equipment, ensuring safe and reliable plant operations.

Key responsibilities

• Diagnose, troubleshoot and perform all mechanical operations required to modify, dismantle and repair plant equipment.
• Overhaul and repair rotating machinery such as centrifugal pumps, gearboxes, fans and filter belts.
• Fabricate, assemble, weld, cut and pipe‑fit components as needed.
• Inspect completed work for quality, dimensional accuracy and compliance with safety standards.
• Support on‑call maintenance activities during day, night, weekend and holiday shifts.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED with at least five years of industrial mechanic experience, OR an associate degree in industrial maintenance with three years of relevant experience.
• Willingness to work on‑call schedules, including nights and weekends.
• Ability to lift 50 lb and carry 25 lb.
• Familiarity with mechanical rotating equipment systems and pipefitting.

Required skills

• Proficiency with hand tools (hammers, wrenches, sockets, pliers, impact tools).
• Welding and cutting techniques for fabrication.
• Use of precision measurement devices (calipers, tape measures, torque wrenches, laser meters).
• Diagnostic and troubleshooting skills for complex machinery.
• Pipefitting and assembly of mechanical components.
