Licensed Vocational Nurse – School Health Services

About the role

The Santa Ana Unified School District is seeking a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) to join its student health team on a continuous‑recruitment basis. Working under the supervision of the credentialed school nurse, you will provide essential health services to students in both regular and special education programs.

Key responsibilities

• Perform daily medical procedures, including toileting assistance, catheterization, gavage feeding, ostomy care, suctioning, and medication administration.
• Provide emergency medical care for serious illness or accidents.
• Assist with student medical screenings, health education, and the development of health‑related newsletters.
• Maintain accurate health records and ensure confidentiality in accordance with state and federal laws.
• Coordinate health conferences with parents, staff, and community resources, and liaise with external medical providers.
• Order and manage supplies for the health office and keep the environment clean and organized.
• Support the implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEP), 504 Plans, and Student Success Team Plans.

Required profile

• Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) certification and current licensure.
• Experience working with both general‑education and special‑education students.
• Strong knowledge of emergency medical procedures and specialized care for medically fragile students.
• Ability to maintain professional competence through continuing education.

Required skills

• Medication administration, including insulin.
• Catheterization and gavage feeding.
• Ostomy care and suctioning.
• Electronic health record (EHR) management.
