Lead Sterile Processing Technician - Kings Hwy

About the role

The Lead Sterile Processing Technician acts as the primary liaison between the Sterile Processing Department and the Operating Room, ensuring instrument availability, quality compliance, and timely resolution of equipment issues. This position also supports junior staff, drives process improvements, and participates in data collection and performance‑enhancement projects.

Key responsibilities

• Communicate with OR staff before each case to determine instrument and supply needs, resolve shortages, and offer alternatives.
• Perform quality audits on instrument sets, case carts, and monitor sterilizer performance.
• Serve as the point of contact for OR and Sterile Processing personnel, troubleshooting instrumentation problems and coordinating re‑processing.
• Maintain instrument inventory, restock surgical cores, and ensure storage meets organizational standards.
• Monitor sterilizer cycles, assist with IUSS in the OR, and report inoperable equipment.

Required profile

• Associate’s degree or at least 5 years of sterile processing experience (minimum 2 years in a hospital setting).
• Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST), OR Certified Sterile Processing Department Technician (CSPDT) and OR Certified Surgical Technologist (CST).
• Prior experience leading teams or supervising staff is preferred.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Windows operating system and related software applications.
• Ability to perform data entry and retrieve information using department‑specific software such as Abacus.
