Lab Manager – Neuroscience Research Lab

About the role

The Lab Manager will support the Orpella Lab within the GUMC Neuroscience Department at Georgetown University. This role combines administrative oversight, research coordination, and team leadership to ensure smooth operation of the lab’s empirical studies.

Key responsibilities

• Obtain and manage approvals from oversight bodies and coordinate protocol development, participant recruitment, and fMRI/behavioral data collection.
• Hire, supervise, and mentor undergraduate research assistants.
• Maintain lab organization, including Notion pages, Box, Google Drive, and lab email accounts.
• Create, update, and enforce research‑board (RB) protocols, consent forms, and data‑security measures.
• Purchase and manage lab equipment, supplies, and technology resources.
• Handle human‑subject payments and maintain related financial records.
• Support software and platform setup for data collection (SONA, Qualtrics, etc.) and train lab members.
• Oversee recruitment and onboarding of new researchers, including CITI training and IRB documentation.

Required profile

• Experience managing research projects in a neuroscience or related biomedical setting.
• Proven ability to supervise and train junior staff.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to data‑management best practices.
• Familiarity with university research compliance procedures.
