Juvenile Correctional Sergeant – Rome, GA

About the role

The State of Georgia is hiring a Juvenile Correctional Sergeant to work at the Rome Youth Detention Center (RYDC). You will help create and maintain a safe, therapeutic, and educational environment for detained youth while supervising correctional staff.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure custody, security, and care of youth in accordance with department policies and SOPs.
• Provide direct support, guidance, and structure to promote safety, personal conduct, and rehabilitation.
• Complete administrative paperwork, maintain records, and prepare reports.
• Inspect, inventory, and control security equipment and technology.
• Maintain order and discipline through active supervision and intervention.
• Assist in training, selecting, and orienting subordinate correctional staff.
• Read and review youth information to identify special‑attention cases.
• Oversee officer activities and performance; act as Shift Supervisor in the Lieutenant’s absence.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least six months experience as a Juvenile Correctional Officer 3 (or equivalent) or four years of military experience.
• Successful completion of Leadership Core Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced within the first six months of employment.
• Maintain State of Georgia P.O.S.T. certification within six months.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to meet physical agility standards.
