About the role
Oceaneering’s Marine Services Division in Chesapeake, VA is seeking an Inside Machinist Supervisor to lead daily operations of its precision machine shop. The role combines hands‑on machining, CNC programming, and team leadership to deliver high‑tolerance, mission‑critical components for naval and industrial applications.
Key responsibilities
- Supervise daily production assignments, guide machinists on complex, non‑repeatable tasks, and ensure compliance with engineering drawings, MIL‑STDs, and SUBSAFE/SOC requirements.
- Create, edit, and optimize CNC programs for lathe and mill operations using G‑code and CAM platforms such as Mastercam or Fusion 360.
- Validate CNC programs through first‑article inspections and oversee machine setup, tooling, fixturing, and work‑holding strategies.
- Train and mentor machinists in advanced machining techniques, CNC fundamentals, and precision measurement methods.
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve issues related to tooling, feeds/speeds, surface finish, and tolerance stack‑ups.
- Schedule and prioritize shop tasks to meet deadlines while optimizing labor and machine utilization.
- Review and approve Technical Work Document packages (REC, CWP, TGI) and sign Re‑Entry Control documentation per quality manuals.
- Maintain production documentation, time reporting, QA inspection records, and material purchase requests.
Required profile
- High School Diploma/GED (or equivalent).
- Minimum 3 years supervisory experience in a precision machine shop.
- At least 10 years of manual and CNC machining experience.
- U.S. citizenship (no dual citizenship).
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow strict quality requirements.
Required skills
- CNC programming (G‑code) and CAM software (Mastercam, Fusion 360).
- Lathe and mill operation, both CNC and manual.
- First‑article inspection and precision measurement techniques.
- Knowledge of MIL‑STDs, SUBSAFE/SOC compliance, and technical work document packages.
- Tooling, fixturing, and work‑holding strategy development.
- Troubleshooting of feeds/speeds, surface finish, and tolerance stack‑ups.
