Inside Machinist Specialist – $5,000 Sign‑On Bonus

About the role
Oceaneering’s Marine Services Division is looking for an experienced Inside Machinist to produce one‑off, high‑precision submarine components. The position offers a $5,000 sign‑on bonus and competitive hourly pay while working in a low‑volume, build‑to‑print environment supporting the U.S. Navy fleet.
Key responsibilities
- Review, edit, and optimize CNC programs for lathes and mills using G‑code and CAM platforms.
- Set up, align, and secure workpieces, fixtures, and tooling on CNC and manual machines, and conduct first‑article runs.
- Machine complex parts from exotic alloys such as HY‑80, HY‑100, Inconel, and stainless steel, selecting appropriate speeds, feeds, and tooling.
- Interpret detailed blueprints, GD&T callouts, and technical documents to plan machining processes without existing work instructions.
- Perform precision measurement with micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and other metrology equipment, recording data for quality compliance.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, and Planning to resolve issues and ensure first‑time quality.
Required profile
- High School Diploma/GED and at least eight years of experience machining critical defense or aerospace components.
- U.S. citizenship (no dual citizenship).
- Proven ability to develop new CNC programs and machining strategies on both manual and CNC equipment.
- Experience reading and applying advanced blueprints, GD&T, and technical specifications independently.
- Capability to perform multi‑axis (4‑ or 5‑axis) machining and first‑article inspections.
- Strong shop math skills and a track record of improving setup instructions and tooling.
Required skills
- CNC programming (G‑code) and CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, SolidWorks).
- Operation of lathes, mills, grinders, saws, and related shop machinery.
- Multi‑axis machining (4‑axis/5‑axis).
- Precision measurement using micrometers, calipers, height/depth gauges, dial indicators, and layout tools.
- Machining of exotic alloys (HY‑80, HY‑100, Inconel, stainless steel).
- Interpretation of GD&T and complex technical drawings.
