Heavy Civil Construction Engineer – Public Works Projects

About the role

Our client is a family‑owned heavy civil contractor in Southern California that delivers complex public‑works projects to Caltrans specifications. The Heavy Civil Construction Engineer will lead and support the execution of large‑scale infrastructure work, balancing field operations with financial performance.

Key responsibilities

• Lead or support execution of heavy civil and public‑works projects built to Caltrans standards.
• Manage project budgets, cost tracking, forecasting and overall financial performance.
• Oversee field operations to ensure safe, efficient project delivery.
• Coordinate crews, subcontractors, schedules and project resources.
• Support project planning, documentation, change management and client coordination.
• Ensure compliance with contract documents, specifications, quality standards and public‑agency requirements.

Required profile

• 10+ years of construction experience, primarily with a contractor.
• Strong background in heavy civil or public‑works construction, including bridges, freeway widening, retaining walls, pump stations and large concrete structures.
• Hands‑on experience with Caltrans specifications and project financial responsibility.
• Proven crew management and field‑operations exposure.
• Legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
• Clean driving record preferred for company‑vehicle eligibility.
