Head of Engineering

About the role

Rain is a global stablecoin payments platform seeking a senior engineering leader to own the craft, quality, and technical direction of its 30‑person engineering organization. This role is hands‑on, focused on raising the engineering bar and ensuring the systems that move real money are reliable, secure, and scalable.

Key responsibilities

• Set and maintain Rain’s engineering quality standards across system design, code review, testing, observability, and documentation.
• Provide hands‑on technical leadership by reviewing critical pull requests, prototyping high‑risk components, and making key architectural decisions.
• Own the technical architecture and strategy to support the next order of magnitude in transaction volume.
• Lead a mix of direct reports, engineering managers, and tech leads while partnering closely with Product, Risk, and Compliance.
• Drive design reviews, incident retrospectives, hiring, and technical bets that shape the roadmap.

Required profile

• Proven senior engineering leader with experience building large‑scale, high‑throughput payment or financial systems.
• Deep technical expertise and a willingness to stay active in the codebase.
• Strong ability to influence technical decisions, mentor managers, and raise the performance of a small, senior team.
• Comfortable with hard design debates, code reviews that change direction, and coaching conversations.
