Hardware Systems Architect

About the role

Anthropic is building the next generation of AI hardware to improve capability, cost, and reliability. As a Hardware Systems Architect you will define system‑level architecture for compute platforms, from package boundaries to datacenter integration, and guide strategic build, buy, or co‑design decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Own end‑to‑end system architecture for a defined domain, from concept through specification, design review, and deployment.
• Write high‑level requirements and specifications for systems, boards, interfaces, and racks that partners and internal teams implement.
• Evaluate partner and vendor designs, make build/buy/co‑design recommendations, and flag schedule or alignment risks early.
• Lead interconnect and networking architecture, including scale‑up/scale‑out fabrics, NICs, switches, optics, and topology.
• Define board, chassis, and system‑level architecture with partners, covering component placement, PCB layout, connectors, cabling, power budgeting, and thermal budgeting.
• Develop performance simulations, hardware models, and “what‑if” scenarios to compare candidate architectures.
• Establish validation, bring‑up, and qualification strategies to prove hardware designs meet reliability and serviceability goals.

Required profile

• Senior‑level experience designing complex hardware systems for compute, storage, or accelerator platforms.
• Proven ability to make and own strategic architectural decisions across the hardware stack.
• Strong collaboration skills with ML performance, infrastructure software, supply‑chain, datacenter, and vendor teams.
• Comfort working in a fast‑moving AI research environment and leveraging AI‑assisted design tools.
