Ground Service Equipment (GSE) Technician

About the role

Swissport is seeking a Ground Service Equipment (GSE) Technician to maintain and service all ground handling equipment at its JFK station. You will ensure that all motorized and non‑motorized equipment operates safely and complies with local regulations, supporting a high‑volume aviation environment.

Key responsibilities

• Operate, drive, and perform preventive maintenance on all types of GSE equipment.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and hydraulic issues, repairing equipment before it returns to service.
• Conduct airport de‑icing training and work in snow, ice, and cold weather conditions.
• Respond to emergency service calls and accidents involving ground equipment.
• Complete maintenance documentation in line with carrier, airport authority, and regulatory requirements.
• Maintain a clean, safe GSE shop and adhere to safety guidelines (WCB, EPA, WHMIS).
• Fuel equipment safely and liaise professionally with ramp management, customers, and staff.

Required profile

• Valid driver’s licence for both air‑side and non‑air‑side operations.
• Trade‑school training or mechanical background preferred.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Willingness to work outdoors year‑round and handle overtime during weather emergencies.

Required skills

• Hydraulic system knowledge.
• Airport de‑icing procedures.
• Welding (plus).
• Mechanical maintenance and preventive maintenance techniques.
• Operation of ground support equipment.
