Gender Affairs Officer

About the role

The Gender Affairs Officer will work within the Gender Unit of the Office of the Under‑Secretary‑General at the United Nations Headquarters. Reporting to the Senior Gender Adviser, the officer will support the development and implementation of gender‑responsive policies and tools across peace operations.

Key responsibilities

• Gather, select and analyse information from diverse sources, including press and publications.
• Conduct gender analysis and contribute to the creation of operational guidance at global, regional and national levels.
• Monitor political and gender‑related developments, providing briefings and advice to field missions and UN agencies.
• Provide technical backup for Women, Peace and Security mandates and maintain contacts with UN entities, NGOs and governments.
• Maintain databases of gender‑disaggregated information and support fact‑finding missions.
• Prepare briefing materials for senior officials and contribute to secretariat services for UN bodies.
• Collect and visualise data to identify trends, producing charts, tables and reports for decision‑making.

Required profile

• Strong analytical ability to assess political, gender, ethnic and socio‑economic issues.
• Professional competence in gender‑responsive policy development.
• Experience working in international or multilateral environments is preferred.

Required skills

• Data analysis and visualization (graphs, charts, tables).
• Database management for gender‑disaggregated information.
