Finance Director

About the role

The City of Novi is looking for a strategic Finance Director to lead its financial operations and support long‑term fiscal sustainability. Reporting to the City Manager, you will shape financial strategy, oversee budget development, and ensure resources align with community priorities.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, monitor, and adjust the annual budget and the Six‑Year Capital Improvement Plan.
• Coordinate audits, bond issuances, utility billing, payroll, and accounts payable.
• Maintain compliance with regulatory and reporting requirements and uphold the city’s AAA bond rating.
• Manage insurance renewals, capital project financing, and purchasing policies for transparency and cost‑effectiveness.
• Provide financial analysis, performance reporting, and economic trend advice to senior leadership.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business management, or a related field.
• 5–7 years of progressive financial management experience, including supervisory roles, within municipal government.
• Deep expertise in municipal accounting, budgeting, treasury, and debt management.
• Strong leadership, decision‑making, problem‑solving, and communication abilities.
• Preferred: CPA, CPFO, CMA, or a master’s degree in finance or a related discipline.
