Engineering Manager, Research Data Platform

About the role

Anthropic is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Research Data Platform team. The role focuses on building and operating data‑intensive systems that support AI research, collaborating closely with researchers and engineers to streamline data workflows and deliver trusted, canonical datasets.

Key responsibilities

• Work directly with researchers and supporting engineers to understand workflows, identify high‑leverage opportunities, and shape the team’s roadmap.
• Set technical direction for platform components and datasets.
• Design and build reusable platform libraries, services, and interfaces (e.g., metrics library for training frameworks).
• Own end‑to‑end core datasets, including pipelines, schemas, documentation, and reliability guarantees.
• Drive convergence toward canonical datasets such as the RL transcript data model.
• Lead multi‑quarter, cross‑team projects while staying hands‑on in code.
• Raise the team’s technical bar through design reviews, mentorship, and high‑quality contributions.

Required profile

• Have built and operated data‑intensive systems at scale—pipelines, storage layers, query systems—with strong instincts for data modeling.
