Engineering Manager, Events Analytics Platform

About the role

Sentry provides developer‑first observability to millions of developers worldwide. The Events Analytics Platform (EAP) team powers the storage, querying, and analysis of all event data, including errors, transactions, spans, profiles, replays, and metrics, and supports Sentry’s AI initiatives. As an Engineering Manager on the EAP team, you will lead engineers building and scaling this critical data platform, driving architectural evolution and ensuring system stability.

Key responsibilities

• Grow and develop a high‑impact engineering team with strong ownership.
• Set technical and strategic direction, balancing short‑term stability with long‑term architecture.
• Drive development of core EAP features such as complex analytical queries, dynamic routing, and storage‑compute separation.
• Ensure the platform can handle AI agent workloads and new AI capabilities.
• Partner with product, streaming, production, security, and compliance teams.
• Lead incident response, post‑mortems, and scaling challenges while fostering operational excellence.

Required skills

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 4+ years of people management.
• Strong background in data platforms, storage systems, or analytical back‑ends (e.g., ClickHouse, Pinot, Druid).
• Experience with distributed systems, query optimization, and scaling data‑intensive workloads.
• Excellent communication skills for diverse technical audiences.
• Proficiency with Python, Rust, or similar languages (a plus).
• Familiarity with observability, developer tools, or event‑driven systems (a plus).
