Director, NYS Office of Trade and Tourism

About the role

The Director will lead ESD's Regional Office in Puerto Rico, driving investment attraction, trade assistance, and market development for New York State businesses.

Key responsibilities

• Direct day‑to‑day operations of the ESD Regional Office and identify distribution channels for New York State industries in Puerto Rico.
• Assist New York exporters traveling to Puerto Rico with language support, business protocol education, and regulatory guidance.
• Develop strategies to expand New York’s markets in Puerto Rico and identify high‑potential sectors.
• Provide foreign market intelligence, including product viability, market penetration, and compliance advice.
• Build relationships with governmental, business, civic, and cultural organizations.
• Plan, budget, and manage trade shows and investment missions, maintaining a database of industry‑specific events.
• Prepare reports on industry statistics, market trends, and trade leads in Puerto Rico.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Marketing or Economics.
• At least 10 years of experience in urban/regional development or economic development policy.
• Fluency in Spanish.
• Broad knowledge of business, economic development programs, and public development management.
