Data Scientist – Peace Operations

About the role

The Department of Peace Operations is seeking a Data Scientist to support peacekeeping missions by monitoring, analysing, and responding to misinformation, disinformation, and hate speech in the digital environment. The role is based in New York and reports to the Senior Programme Management Officer within the Policy and Best Practices Service.

Key responsibilities

• Analyze large, complex datasets to extract insights using appropriate techniques and platforms.
• Prepare reports that communicate trends and patterns through data visualisations.
• Ensure data integrity and compliance with UN privacy regulations and best practices.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders, technology providers, civil society, international organisations and Member States to identify data‑driven business solutions.
• Mine and analyse organisational databases to optimise programme development, advocacy and business strategies.
• Assess the effectiveness and accuracy of new data sources and data‑gathering techniques.
• Develop technology solutions for monitoring and analysing the digital information environment.
• Apply predictive modelling to improve outcomes and benefit realisation.
• Design and implement A/B testing frameworks and evaluate model quality.
• Coordinate with functional teams to deploy models and monitor results.
• Develop tools and processes to track model performance and data accuracy.
