Data Scientist II

About the role

Scribd’s Applied Research team is looking for a Data Scientist II to design and deploy high‑impact machine‑learning systems that power content classification, recommendation, search and other AI‑driven features across billions of documents and user interactions.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and productionize models for content classification using traditional NLP, large language models and generative AI.
• Investigate scalable solutions to complex problems and collaborate with ML Engineers, Data Engineers and product partners.
• Leverage a wide range of algorithms—from Scikit‑learn and NumPy to custom PyTorch neural networks and third‑party LLM APIs.
• Process massive datasets with Python, SQL and Spark, ensuring end‑to‑end visibility and impact.
• Communicate approaches and results to stakeholders and produce clear project documentation.

Required profile

• 4+ years of experience building and deploying machine‑learning models at scale.
• Proficiency in Python and strong experience with distributed data processing (Apache Spark, Databricks or similar).
• Intermediate expertise in at least three areas such as classification, NLP, search, information retrieval, NER, deep learning or generative models.
• Solid SQL or PySpark skills.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., Computer Science, Statistics, Data Science).
