Data Scientist – Developer Productivity

About the role

Anthropic is building reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. As a Data Scientist focused on Developer Productivity, you will partner with engineering leadership to define, measure, and improve how AI‑augmented tools impact developer efficiency.

Key responsibilities

• Lead ambiguous, high‑stakes investigations where the question isn’t yet well‑formed, e.g., “does Claude make engineers faster?”.
• Treat findings as provisional, prioritize instrumentation, broad evidence collection, and iterative revision.
• Partner with Developer Productivity engineering leadership to set the measurement and research agenda.
• Define a metrics framework for developer productivity in an AI‑augmented organization and drive its adoption.
• Design and run experiments on internal tooling and workflow changes, building causal evidence of productivity gains.
• Influence engineering, infrastructure, and product leadership with data, pushing back when evidence contradicts prevailing narratives.
• Build analytical foundations (pipelines, dashboards, models) hands‑on or through partners.

Required profile

• Proven experience writing production‑quality SQL and Python (or a similar language) to build pipelines, dashboards, and models independently.
• Experience serving as the primary data or analytics voice in a space with ill‑defined questions and helping to define them.
• Demonstrated ability to hold conclusions loosely, favor instrumentation and evidence‑gathering over defending prior positions, and revise based on data.
