About the role

OpenAI is seeking an experienced litigation counsel to support global intellectual property litigation, dispute resolution, and regulatory matters. The role works closely with Legal, Communications, Global Affairs, and Executive teams and reports to the Associate General Counsel.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal advice on global litigation, commercial disputes, IP litigation (copyright and trademark), and regulatory investigations.
• Manage and oversee outside counsel throughout discovery, motion practice, trial preparation, and settlement negotiations.
• Monitor relevant laws, regulations, and industry trends, delivering updates and guidance to leadership.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to assess risk and develop legal strategies.

Required profile

• 8+ years of combined litigation and/or regulatory experience at innovative technology companies or law firms.
• Juris Doctor degree and an active license to practice law in California or another U.S. state.
• Experience managing complex global IP litigation, including copyright and trademark disputes across multiple jurisdictions.
• Strong sense of ownership, inquisitive about technology, and ability to exercise sound judgment in ambiguous situations.
